Warm Waters, Big Catches: Center Console Fishing in Sunny Destinations

If the calendar didn’t confirm it, the weather (in most of the country) certainly does: We’re officially in the midst of winter. But who says you have to store away your rods and reels for the next several months?

At Blackfin Boats, we think it’s the perfect time of year to explore new waters and catch some fantastic fish — a little closer to the equator. From sunny coasts that hug the United States, to the tropical waters abroad, we've compiled a list of five fabulous fishing destinations to visit this winter. Hop aboard and prepare for some warm-weather angling action!

The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys offer some of the best saltwater fishing in the world, thanks in large part to their unique geography. The limestone islands are part of an ancient coral reef — and the clear, warm waters are perfect for a winter fishing trip.

Here, you can try for species such as tarpon, bonefish, and even the elusive sailfish. When you’re ready for a break from the action (and you’ll have earned it!), scenic beaches and charming waterfront cafes abound. Of course, unwinding with a power nap on your Blackfin Boat does the trick too.

Baja Peninsula

Jutting out beneath California, the Baja Peninsula stretches along the Pacific and offers a stunning backdrop for fishing fun. The Sea of Cortez, in particular, is a hotspot for boaters and anglers alike — boasting marlin, dorado, and yellowtail at this time of year. Talk about a vibrant alternative to a snowy winter!

The Bahamas

Just a short trip from The Sunshine State, The Bahamas offer crystal-clear waters and no shortage of shallow-water fishing spots — an utter paradise for boaters who crave a serene fishing experience.

In these Caribbean waters, you can hook snapper, grouper, and wahoo — to name just a few popular catches. Fishing for bonefish in the flats is also a popular activity, especially for those who enjoy light-tackle or fly fishing.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a double gem for anglers — with not one but two coastlines (the Pacific and Caribbean) packing even more fishing fun into a truly epic winter weekend.

Wondering what you’ll find on the other end of your line? Sailfish, marlin, and roosterfish are abundant in the winter months. Whether you’re into deep-sea excursions or inshore adventures, Costa Rica’s diverse ecosystem allows for it all. As always, just be sure to familiarize yourself with local regulations so you know what can be reeled in!

Hawaii

OK, this one is hardly a surprise: Hawaii’s year-round warm weather and stunning volcanic landscapes provide a stunning backdrop for fishing. But don’t get too distracted by the view and forget to scan the water! The islands’ oceans are teeming with marine life, making them a top destination for boaters, anglers, and water lovers of every sort.

Winter anglers can look forward to a thriving mahi-mahi, wahoo, and Pacific blue marlin scene — providing a challenging yet rewarding experience for novice and seasoned anglers alike.

As we head into the colder months, there’s no need to put your fishing dreams on ice. These warm destinations offer some of the best winter fishing experiences, allowing you to chase the sun and the bite. From our Blackfin Boats family to yours, we wish you happy cruising and angling in the new year!
